A diagram showing the 5 main areas of a child's body that needs measuring when ordering my handmade clothing

measuring your child for my handmade clothes doesn't need to be scary - you just need an accurate tape measure (test it against a ruler as sometimes tape measures can stretch and are no longer accurate!)

This picture shows you the 5 basic measurements that you may need to take (all my sizing charts for each garment are displayed at the end of the photographs and will show you which measurements you will need).

1. Height - stand your child against a wall (in bare feet/socks) and ask them to stand as straight as possible (this can be really tricky with little ones - if they can't stand, lie them on a flat surface).

move their heels to the touch the wall and with a pencil, mark where the top of their head comes to. measure this point to the floor (my sizing charts will tell you whether you need to measure in cms or inches).

2. chest - using the tape measure, pass it under your child's arms and around their chest (nipple height), keeping the tape measure level. it needs to be snug, but try not to pull it too tight! it's best to take off any thick jumpers and measure them wearing a thin t-shirt.

3. waist - make sure you're are measuring the natural waistline which is just above the hips, near their belly button. again, keep the measure level and don't pull it too tight - it needs to be a comfortable fit. remove thick jumpers, a thin t-shirt will do!

4. hips - The hip measurement is the fullest part of your little ones bottom. as before, pass the tape measure around your child keeping it level and not too tight. Make sure they are not wearing really thick trousers.

5. inside leg - ask your child to stand with their legs slightly apart. With the tape measure, measure from the crotch to the ankle.

you can now use these measurements to compare against my sizing charts to pick the correct size for your child.

what if my measurements overlap different ages?

it's perfectly normal for children to come in all shapes and sizes - the sizing charts only give the average measurements for each age group. so it's to be expected for some children to overlap!

Now because i make everything to order, i can blend different sizes together to give you a more tailored fit!

so if you need extra/less length/width... no worries, i can do that for you! just contact me (either via social media, by email or the chat function) and we can discuss sizing before you place your order.

please note: if choosing this option, the garment becomes a personalised order which is not eligible for a return/refund.
